A few months ago I had made Dr Pepper Pulled Pork and I have to say it was absolutely amazing and oh so tender. As I was about to prepare this for my family, I soon came to realize that someone had swiped the last Dr Pepper. I had a liter of Big Red in my fridge and was very curious if I could substitute Dr Pepper for Big Red, so I did what every other curious person does in America and asked Google! I was so happy that Google said that I could substitute Dr Pepper for Big Red, so I decided to make my family Big Red Pulled Pork.
Big Red Pulled Pork is an amazing and easy slow cooker recipe! Yes, I said, ‘Slow Cooker’. It only needs 4 simple ingredients; Big Red, BBQ sauce, seasoning and the meat.
After I rinse my pork loin I coat it with cinnamon. You can choose whatever spice you’d like. I then place the seasoned pork loin into the slow cooker and add the remaining ingredients (2 cups of Big Red and 1 cup of BBQ sauce).
After I add the 4 simple ingredients into the slow cooker, I cook on low for 6-7 hours. After the meat has cooked, I pull the meat out onto a tray and start shredding it with the most amazing BBQ meat shredding tool ever, Meat Claws. After the meat is shredded you have a few options; coat it with BBQ sauce, eat without adding anything, or coat it with some of the Big Red and BBQ sauce that the meat cooked in. My biggest advice is to not put it back into the slow cooker because it will continue to cook and become chewy.
- 2 pounds Pork Loin Roast Center Cut Boneless
- Seasoning (I chose cinnamon)
- 2 cups of Big Red or one can
- 1 cup of BBQ sauce
- Rinse off pork loin and pat dry
- Coat with seasoning of choice
- Place seasoned pork loin in slow cooker
- Add Big Red and BBQ Sauce
- Cook on Low for 6-7 hours
- When the meat is cooked, remove pork loin from slow cooker very carefully and shred
- Eat alone, add BBQ sauce or add some of the juice from the slow cooker, but DO NOT put the shredded pork back into the slow cooker or it will become chewy.

I’m not a big fan of pork, but I would totally try this with chicken! Yummy! <3
This sounds so good. Thanks for sharing.
This sounds fantastic! I will definitely have to try this. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
Love pulled pork! This looks yummy!
This looks delicious. I don’t know what it is about pop, but it always makes meat so tender.
I would have never thought to use something other than a dark soda for pulled pork. I make it in the crock pot all the time, but always use coke. Maybe I’ll have to venture out. I’m not sure we have big red here so I’ll have to look.
I love Big Red! I’ll have to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing at the #HomeMattersParty – we hope to see you again next week 🙂
I’ve never made Pulled Pork with soda before. It sounds like a really yummy recipe! Thanks for sharing.

I really like the way you outlined the recipe for Big Red Pulled Pork, as well as your helpful hints. Like Donna, I want meat claws to shred the meat more easily.
Thank you and those claws are AMAZING!
This looks amazing! I never had Big Red soda but I would definitely try this recipe. The slaw is the perfect compliment to the sweetness of the pork.
Soda is such a great tenderizer for meat. I bet this has a great flavor with Big Red!
Okay, I want some meat claws! 🙂 I’ve never tried it with Big Red before, but do love it with Coke. So I’ll look for some Big Red the next time I go to the store. My husband loves pulled pork, so he will be a happy man!
Those meat claws are the bomb!!!! I bought them for my husband and I AM IN LOVE with them.

I love pulled pork and this recipe sounds delicious, I’ve never tried Big Red Soda, I can’t wait to try it in this recipe.
I am in love with Pulled pork quite literally the only thing I get at a BBQ place. There is still a sauce left after it’s done right? Could you thicken it and pulled the pulled pork back in just to really coat it?
My son had the idea to somehow thicken the sauce. I forget the term he used. I did not want to waste any time since I was hungry
Wow this looks really good! Usually I see people make it with coke cola! Plus those pictures make it look extra good. Thank you for sharing 🙂
This sounds amazing – pulled pork of any kind is something I really need to get to grips with making! x
I’ve had Coke and Dr. Pepper pulled pork, but I’ve never tried it with Big Red cola. It looks so good, I’ve definitely got to try it.
I have tried this before with Dr. Pepper. It didn’t work for me, but I’d give it another try.
Oh gosh that looks delicious!!! Pinning to make the next time Hubs is home 🙂
Looks like it comes out perfectly! Thanks for sharing this one!
This is certainly different and interesting using Big Red soda. Your photo was engaging and made my mouth water… Don’t you hate that being hungry for food that you can’t get . Oh well I guess I have to try to make it . Thanks for the information.
I’m going to have to try to make it soon too! It’ll be the perfect meal since the weather is getting warmer.
I’ll have to try this with Big Red. I’ve used coke, beer and water before. I like adding something spicy to the mix as well.
Sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing your recipe!
YUMMY!
We just made pulled pork AND used those same meat claws!
I don’t think we have Big Red here, but I’ll try with Dr. Pepper 🙂 This recipe sounds really good and easy – great for our busy schedule!
I don’t think I have seen that soda around here. In any case your recipe sounds absolutely delicious!
