As a daycare provider, I love making special gifts, such as this one, for my kid’s parents, especially around the holidays. With Christmas around the corner, I wanted to make them a sweet but simple gift that they could cherish each year that they decorated their tree. Since my parents love to receive pictures of their kids throughout the day from me I decided to create a DIY Simple Picture Ornament.
This sweet and simple gift is easy to make, uses very few supplies and is a gift that will be beautiful to look at throughout the years. Here are the supplies that you will need:
- Unfinished wood shaped in any design. I found the square wood at Michael’s Craft Store for 50% off so I couldn’t turn it down. If you want to get creative you can shape your own design with a piece of wood you might have laying around or you can order different shapes such as this from Amazon.
- Printed picture of the child. I printed a sweet picture of each child from home using standard computer paper.
- Multi-Surface Paint in any color that you choose. Since it’s the holidays, I like to try and find paint with a touch of sparkle such as this amazing paint from the Martha Stewart collection.
- Embellishments of choice. I found scraps of embellishments that were in my craft box and used what looked best. You can go fun or you can go classy.
- Paintbrushes
- Mod Podge
- Hot Glue Gun plus glue sticks
The steps to creating this sweet but simple project are simple and can be done in less than an hour. The longest part of the project is waiting for the glue and the Mod Podge to dry. The first step is to paint the front and the back of the wooden ornament and then allow it to dry.
Once the wood has completely dried, size and cut out the picture of your child so that it fits onto the ornament. Paint Mod Podge onto the back of the picture, place the picture onto the ornament and press down. You will then paint Mod Podge over the front of the entire ornament and then let it dry completely.
After the entire ornament has dried, glue your embellishments around the picture. You can use any type of embellishments that you like.
I love how these sweet but simple DIY Simple Picture Ornaments turned out. I know that my parents will love and adore them and cherish them forever.
