I am in love with handprint and footprint projects for kids. One of my favorite projects that I did for my daycare kids is the one I had them make for their dads to show them how much they loved them. You can see it here. I am always trying to come up with a creative handprint or/and footprint craft because they are great keepsakes that parents love and will cherish forever. Recently, I received a Cricut Explore and knew I wanted to make a fun shirt for my kids. After having a fabulous idea pop in my head, I knew that I wanted to make my kids a handprint friendship shirt that they would be able to cherish for years.
I am in love with this shirt. It is very simple to make, is fun to make and has a beautiful message. The needed supplies are simple. You will need:
- White shirts
- Cricut Explore (if you do not own a Cricut, you can purchase iron-on material and use your printer or you can contact me and we can talk)
- Heat Transfer Vinyl
- Paintbrushes
- All Purpose Paint
- Paint Marker
- WaterWipes
After I completed this project, I discovered that I did not complete it in the correct order. I should have ironed on the vinyl transfer ‘My Friends Have My Back!’ before I had the kids place their handprints on the shirt. For the font on the shirt, I used the Blockhead Dude font. After you create and print the script using your Cricut Explore, iron it on the front of each shirt.
After the script has been ironed onto each shirt, place a protector such as a thick piece of paper inside the shirt to prevent the paint from bleeding through. Then have each child choose a paint color and start placing their handprints on the back of each shirt.
After the handprints dry, write the name of the child inside of their handprint. Before I painted each child’s hand, I made sure to take a picture of them as they were holding the paint color that they chose. This was a good way for me not to forget which handprint belonged to which child.
These shirts came out perfect and I love how the color of the kid’s handprints make the shirt pop. The kids had a lot of fun making them and the parents adored them. If you are part of a playdate, daycare, or school this could be a fun project for your little ones.
