Schools throughout the country are slowing getting back into session. I have 2 daughters and a grand daughter that will be headed back to school in a week and I am not looking forward to it. I look forward to them making new friends, expanding their minds and creating new memories but I don’t look forward to not being around them all day doing fun activities and making our own family memories. Since I have sent many kids back to school over the years I am not worried about the back to school stress that sometimes comes with the start of school because of all of the experience I have had but I know that some parents are not ready for that stress. In order to help those parents, I have compiled some tips on how to avoid back to school stress.

How to Avoid Back to School Stress

School can be exhausting for kids of all ages. They wake up when it’s still dark outside, grab a quick breakfast, run out the door for a long day of learning and then a lot of kids sit on a school bus for 30 minutes or more before they get home to tackle homework. For a child any age, that can lead to a lot of unwanted stress. To avoid this stress, here are some tips that I have learned over the years on how to avoid back to school stress:

  • Stock up on quick and simple breakfasts such as Jimmy Dean® Breakfast Sandwiches and Jimmy Dean® Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick. These are quick breakfast options that are satisfying and delicious.
  • When kids walk through the door after a long day of learning, they are hungry. I like to have State Fair® Corn Dogs ready for my girls the moment they open the door. They love their signature honey-sweetened cornbread batter and they quickly satisfy their hunger. I make sure to stock up on State Fair® Corn Dogs, Jimmy Dean® Breakfast Sandwiches and Jimmy Dean® Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick found in the freezer section at Walmart.

  • When your kids come home from school, let them take a moment to unwind and relax before they start diving into homework. I encourage my girls to watch some television or listen to music as a way to clear their minds and de-stress.

  • When it’s time to start homework, I let my girls find a spot that they are most comfortable. Since I run a home daycare there are always a lot of distractions that may interfere with them being able to 100% focus on their studies, so I let them choose. My oldest daughter likes to sneak away and do her homework in our RV. Not only is it quiet but it’s distraction free from her sisters and my daycare kids.

Prevent Back to School Stress

  • Once your kids are finished with their homework or if they have questions, make one on one time with them to help them. It is so important to be distraction free when you are helping your kids with their homework so that they can have an understanding of the answers to their questions. When you are trying to focus, distractions can create a lot of stress which can lead to frustration.

Sending your kids back to school can be stressful for kids and parents but it doesn’t have to be. With these simple tips to avoid the back to school stress, most of the unwanted stress can be alleviated. Just remember to keep your kid’s hunger satisfied, allow them to de-stress when they get home and create a quiet and distraction free space for them.
