Living in San Antonio, I would always order empanadas from the ladies that made and sold them at Market Square.
I always wanted to make them for my family but thought that they would be too hard or impossible for me to figure out.
Little did I know, after a little bit of research, that they were one of the easiest recipes that I have made my family in a very long time.
I recently made my family Pepperoni Pizza Empanadas, which I hope to share soon. My kids loved them, so I decided to make them a sweet treat that I hoped they would fall in love with.
Cinnamon Apple Empanadas
What I love about making empanadas is that not only are they easy to make but they use very few ingredients.
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3 Granny Smith apples, diced
- Cinnamon/Sugar mix (optional)
- Empanada wraps (found in your grocer’s freezer)- thawed
- Oil for frying
The steps to make Cinnamon Apple Empanadas are simple.
- Peel & dice 3 Granny Smith apples
- Melt butter in a saucepan
- Once melted, stir in the sugar & the cinnamon
- Let dissolve
- Add apples & boil on low until apples are tender
- Remove from heat
- Spoon a tablespoon of apple mixture onto one half of each empanada wrap
- Fold the other half over & use a fork to seal the open the edges
- Sprinkle with a cinnamon/sugar mixture on each side (optional)
- Pro Tip- I seal the edges with a fork on each side
- Heat oil
- Once the oil is heated, add the empanadas, brown on each side & remove
- Place on a paper towel to remove excess oil
- Serve alone or with ice cream.

Once the Cinnamon Apple Empanadas have cooled, serve them alone or topped with ice cream.
I drizzled some of the remaining melted sugar/cinnamon mixtures onto the empanada and the ice cream. It turned out fabulous and my girls loved it.
