Savory Meatloaf

Growing up I always looked at meatloaf as being a big chunk of hamburger meat that was shaped into a rectangle and smothered in ketchup. At times my mom would torture us and put tiny bits of onions in the mix that were near impossible to pick out. Since that time, I have feared the meatloaf and have pretty much stayed away from  it until I was lucky enough to win a Healthy Solutions Spice Blends prize pack!

Savory Meatloaf Healthy Solutions Spice Blends

The first spice blend packet that I chose to use was the Savory Meatloaf. Since my experience with meatloaf had not been a good one growing up, I thought I should give it another try, especially since this seasoning packet looked incredibly fresh. When I opened the Savory Meatloaf Spice Blend packet the smell was absolutely delicious and the color of the spices were beautiful.

Savory Meatloaf
Recipe Type: Down Home Cooking
Author: House of Fauci’s
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 lbs lean hamburger meat
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup dried bread crumbs
  • 1 pack of Healthy Solutions Savory Meatloaf mix
  • dash salt and pepper
  • 1 to 2 tbsp of brown sugar
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Combine all ingredients, except for the brown sugar
  3. Mix well
  4. Prepare a square loaf pan
  5. Shape mixture into pan
  6. Bake uncovered for 55-60 minutes
  7. Meat thermometer should read 160 degrees or when middle is no longer pink (that is my method)
  8. Remove from oven and sprinkle with brown sugar

When my Savory Meatloaf was finished baking, I removed it from the oven and let it sit for around 10 minutes. Since I use the Perfect Meatloaf Pan, I can easily remove the meatloaf to a separate dish so that the meatloaf will not sit in its own grease. As the meatloaf is sitting for those 10 minutes I prepare the meatloaf topping. Some households use ketchup as the topping but since I have a brilliant husband who came up with his own meatloaf topping I will never use ketchup again. The meatloaf topping is simple to make and has no ‘exact’ recipe and can be made to taste. Here is my husband’s recipe: Mix 2 oz of ketchup, 1 oz mustard, 1 tbsp brown sugar, 1 squirt of agave, dash of salt and pepper and a dash of chili powder. Squirt the mix onto the top of the Savory Meatloaf and enjoy. Along with the amazing Healthy Solutions Spice Blends and with the meatloaf topping, I promise that you will never look at meatloaf the same again!
