The House of Fauci’s has survived putting 3 teenagers through driving school. It was quite an adventure that was scary but necessary and an adventure that we will be doing again in less than 4 years! Putting a teenager through driving school and then trusting them to do the right thing when they are behind the wheel is scary but an important part of their life. Normally after a teen completes driving school and gets their driver’s license they will hope to get a car of their own. For parents that are able to buy their newly licensed teen a car, it’s important to find the right car.
Tips for Buying a Car For Your Teen
- Make sure the safety features are up to standard. When I was younger, I was given an old car with no safety features. I was lucky that I was okay after I got into a car accident. It’s important that we find a car that protects our kids.
- If you are purchasing a used car, make sure that you look at the vehicle history report.
- Determine your price point. I do not believe in buying a new driver a new car with all of the bells and whistles but I do believe in buying them a car with the right safety features.
- Choose a car that is not too big or too small. A vehicle is powerful and your teen will need to be able to confidently drive it.
- Make sure that your teen feels comfortable in the vehicle. This is important so they are more confident when they are driving.
- Standard or Automatic? My first car was a standard and I wrecked it in a week! It was horrible. I did not understand how a standard worked and even told my parents how I felt but sadly, they didn’t listen to me.
- What features do you think your teen needs in their car? I, personally, think teens should have GPS installed so they do not have to use their phone for directions.
It’s important to remember that the choice of car that you purchase or that you let your teen purchase should be your decision and not your teens. There are a lot of factors that go into choosing the right car for your teen. One very helpful site that you can find HERE, lets you research the type of car you are looking for. In addition, it makes it simple to compare prices between dealers and gives you detailed information about each car.
