Like most, the House of Fauci’s hold the holidays near and dear to our hearts. Our house is the family meeting spot for all members of our family that come from all different parts of the state, so it’s important that our house is guest ready. When a guest walks into my home, I want them to be welcomed with an inviting scent and I want them to feel as comfortable as if they were in their own home. Over the years, since our house has been the family meeting spot I have a few tips on preparing your home for guests during the holidays.
When I prepare my home for guests, I try and think what I would want if I were a guest in someone’s home. I also use past experiences from when I have had guests in my home. When you prepare your home for guests there are a few simple tips that you should follow to make everyone’s experience memorable.
- Declutter: At least 3 times a year, my family and I declutter our home. This helps us to get ready for visitors during the holidays and it makes room for holiday decorations, guests’ personal items and any gifts that they may bring.
- Well Stocked & Clean Restroom: It is important to have a clean and well-stocked restroom especially when you are having guests. I make sure to fill the bathroom cabinets with extra toothbrushes and toothpaste, feminine products, extra rolls of toilet paper, washcloths, and pain reliever. In addition, I always keep Glade® 8 oz. Room Spray next to the bathroom sink, just in case the restroom needs to be refreshed. Glade® Room Spray has a pleasant scent that can make a restroom more inviting.
- Night Lights: If you plan on having guests stay overnight, it is important to put night lights in the restrooms and along the hallways so your guests can move around comfortably.
- Guest Room: It is important for me to make sure that the room I have available for my guests is somewhere they will feel comfortable at the end of a long day with family. In addition to comfortable sheets and enough drawer space for their clothing, I always have a Glade® 3.4 oz. Small Jar or 9.2 oz. Large Jar Candle lit. As a hostess, I want my guest room to smell like the holidays and bring a sense of holiday joy but also relaxation for my guests.
- Make a Good First Impression: When you walk into someone’s home the first thing that you notice is the aroma. It is important for me to make a good first impression for anyone that enters my home. Since we have a lot of guests during the holidays, I always use Glade® Automatic Spray and Glade® Wax Melts. These two things fill my home with a holiday goodness that makes my guests ask, ‘What is that amazing smell?’.
- Breakfast: Even though my family does not always eat breakfast I make sure to not assume that my guests will not want to eat breakfast. It is important to have breakfast staples or a quick and simple breakfast dish to make your guests if they wake up hungry.
During the holidays before my guests arrive, I shop at my local HEB and pick up all of the supplies that I need to make sure that my guests are comfortable. In addition to the ingredients for my delicious Cinnamon Apple Biscuits, I also purchase a variety of the Glade® limited edition holiday scents. Make sure to look for the Shazam logo on the Glade® in-store displays for Spotify playlists to get you in a festive mood for the holidays.
If you plan on having guests during the holidays, I would love to share with you a delicious breakfast recipe. These Cinnamon Apple Biscuits use simple ingredients. You will need a can of refrigerated biscuits, 2 tablespoons butter, 1-2 apples, 3 tablespoons granulated sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup whipping cream, and 3/4 powdered sugar.
After your ingredients are gathered, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and prepare 12 regular size muffin cups with nonstick spray. Cut or tear the biscuits into small pieces and place them into a mixing bowl. Add the melted butter, diced apple, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Mix the ingredients together so that the biscuits are coated with the apple and sugar mixture.
Once the ingredients are mixed, spoon the mix into the prepared muffin cups and bake for 20-25 minutes.
While the Cinnamon Apple Biscuits are baking, heat and stir the brown sugar and cream in a saucepan. Once it has reached a rolling boil, remove from the heat and proceed to beat in the powdered sugar until the mixture is smooth. After the Cinnamon Apple Biscuits have baked, remove them from the muffin cups immediately and drizzle the warm icing over each biscuit.
