Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls

Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls

When the new year rolls in, there are two foods that I must have and that is stuffed cabbage rolls and black eyed peas. Since I was young, I would eat black-eyed peas for good luck and as an adult I started eating stuffed cabbage because it is so good! This year I decided to change my routine and instead of making stuffed cabbage rolls, I decided to make Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls.

Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls

Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls are much more simple to make than Stuffed Cabbage Rolls. They use the same ingredients and have less steps. For this dish you need: head of cabbage, 1 1/2 cups of uncooked rice, 1 can of tomato sauce, 1 can of diced tomatoes, 1 pound ground beef or turkey, 1/2 an onion, and oil.

Beef Rice Cabbage

The steps for Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls is simple. The first step is to cook the beef with the chopped up onion. While the beef is cooking, prepare the rice according to package directions. As the rice is cooking, you will heat the oil in a deep pot and then add the chopped up cabbage and cook until translucent. After the beef, rice, and cabbage have finished cooking, you will add them to a large pot and stir. You will then add the tomato sauce and diced tomatoes, stir and simmer for 10 minutes.
