I have lived in Texas all of my life and could never see myself living anywhere else. I have traveled outside of Texas only to want to come back as fast as possible. For me, other states don’t seem to have the same type of flair for food that Texas has. No other state can create cheeseburgers and Mexican food like Texas can and no other state can create barbecue that will have you coming back for more. In addition, no other state has amazing music like Texas does. One way that my family gets ready for TexFest is by creating some of my favorite Texas dishes like my Texas Style Queso.
My family always gets excited when it’s time for TexFest. My family and I love coming together for the food and festivities! TexFest inspired dishes like my Texas Style Queso pairs amazingly well with State Fair® Corn Dogs. This TexFest inspired recipe uses a handful of ingredients that make the queso burst with flavor. Before I make my queso, I stop by HEB to grab the necessary ingredients in addition to a 22 ct. box of State Fair® Corn Dogs.
I love to have State Fair Corn Dogs available for my family because not only are they a good source of protein but they are perfect when dipped in my Texas Style Queso. In addition, State Fair corn dogs are made in Texas and will always be a part of our Texas heritage whether dipped in queso, coated with mustard or eaten alone. My family loves them.
Here is the list of the ingredients that were used for my Texas Style Queso, feel free to adjust them accordingly:
- 16 oz block of pasteurized cheese, cubed
- 10 oz can of diced tomatoes & green chiles
- 1 cup of cooked & crumbled sausage (drain grease)
- 1/2 cup pinto or black beans (optional)
- 4 strips of cooked bacon, crumbled
- 1 diced jalapeno
- 22 ct. of State Fair Corn Dogs
The steps for making Texas Style Queso are simple. As you are melting the cheese in a saucepan, rinse the canned beans with water and dice the jalapeno. After the cheese has melted, stir in the can of diced tomatoes & green chiles, the crumbled sausage, and the beans. Simmer and stir for 3 minutes and pour into a serving bowl. Top with crumbled bacon and the diced jalapeno.

This looks so good!
I LOVE queso and this looks great! I also am a huge fan of state fair corn dogs. They are our family’s favorite brand of corn dogs and we love to dip them in queso!
Note to self: do not read food related posts (especially ones that involve cheese) on a somewhat empty stomach, lol. Looks like a great recipe!
