Chicken and Dumplings

Disclaimer: As part of Hamilton Beach’s Brand Ambassador program, I received this product for testing purposes. However, the opinion expressed here is my own.

My favorite type of food is comfort food, so when I received the Set & Forget 6 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker from Hamilton Beach I knew I had to make my family my famous Chicken and Dumplings. As I was growing up, my mom would make the best Chicken and Dumplings. She would spend hours in the kitchen preparing the chicken over the hot stove and then knead the bread for the dumplings. Sadly, I do not have the time or patience to prepare homemade Chicken and Dumplings like my mom, but thankfully I have the Set & Forget Slow Cooker that will give me the extra time I want to spend with my family while also cooking them a delicious meal.

Chicken and Dumplings

What I love about using the  Set & Forget 6 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker from Hamilton Beach is that it is so simple to use. You simply place your food into the slow cooker, lock the lid on, choose the high or low setting and set the timer. Once the timer goes off, the slow cooker automatically goes into ‘warm’ mode so the temperature is kept perfect for when you are ready to serve your family. Another thing that I love about this slow cooker is that it has a lid that locks into place. This is great because if you are traveling with your prepared dish, it will keep the meal safe and secure. Hamilton Beach has allowed me to give away one Set & Forget 6 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker from Hamilton Beach to one of my lucky and awesome readers. If you already have a slow cooker that you love, I encourage you to go ahead and enter to win one from Hamilton Beach. I am sure that you will fall in love with it or you can gift it to someone in need. During the duration of the contest, I will be posting recipes of dishes that I prepared in the Set & Forget 6 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker from Hamilton. These recipes range from main dishes to desserts. Below is my Chicken and Dumplings recipe and below that will be a raffle copter to enter to win yourself or a friend a slow cooker.

Chicken and Dumplings

Ingredients

  • 1 yellow onion (sliced)
  • 3-4 carrots (sliced)
  • 2-3 celery (sliced)
  • 3-4 chicken tenders (uncooked)
  • dash of salt
  • dash of pepper
  • dash of garlic salt
  • 2 cans (10 3/4 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz) chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tube of biscuits (uncooked)
  • shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Place sliced onions, carrots, celery, chicken tenders, salt, pepper, garlic salt, cream of chicken soup, chicken broth and water into the slow cooker.
  2. Cook on High for 6 hours or Low for 8 hours.
  3. Thirty minutes before the timer goes off, tear off bite-size pieces of the biscuits and plop them into the Chicken and Dumpling mix. You may need to push some down into the mix to make room. Place the lid back on the slow cooker and cook for the remaining 30 minutes. Dumplings are finished when they are formed and are not so doughy.
  4. Top with cheese

  68. April Farley says

My fav comfort food is homemade from scratch Mac & cheese with big ham chunks. It is a meal that stands upon its own. You really do not have to add anything to it. Though I usually do serve a salad or green beans along with it. I like your recipe for chick and dumplings though my hubbie would throw a fit if I made his dumplings with canned biscuits. When our kids were very young and things were much more hectic I would make them just like you have listed here. Now that we have grown our kids up and are grandparents I have more time to roll our dumplings. It only takes a few extra moments. though the clean up in the kitchen is much harder!

  69. Looks amazing! Perfect for a cool fall evening. I am really hoping my daughter likes chicken and dumplings because I am slightly obsessed always looking for ways to change up this great favorite 🙂

  70. I grew up eating the best chicken and dumplings in the world! 🙂 I remember the first time I “tried” to make them when I was in my early 20’s. Somehow I got an egg shell (from the homemade dumplings) in there without knowing it. The next time I made them, my toddler son said, “I don’t want the crunchy kind.” 🙂

I will definitely try your slow cooker recipe! It looks heavenly and easy – a winning combination!

  71. This looks delish! I’ve never made my hubby chicken & dumplings…and I’m fairly sure he’s never tried them before, either. As for comfort food…CHILI. Oh, Chili in the crock has got to be my favorite. Let it cook all day and taste the magic later!!! <3 my crock pot!

  72. It has been awhile since I’ve had chicken and dumplings. I sure could go for some now! #Pinning!

  73. My mother used to make her dumplings from scratch as well. She had started using frozen dumplings in later years. I make a recipe similar to yours, love the carrots and celery added. Love that set it and forget it feature on the slow cooker!

  74. YUM! Now I know what’s for dinner!

  75. I love chicken and dumplings and it is perfect comfort food. My husband does not like dumplings, but I am going to try and get away with this anyways 🙂 pinning.

  76. That looks so delicious. I pretty much only cook, if I can do it in a slow cooker! My husband loved a chicken soup that I just made, so I think he would like this even more!
