With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I decided to gather up my daycare kids and have them make their moms a special gift. Since they loved to paint, create and play in the dirt I knew the perfect gift would be for them to make a Mother’s Day Flower Pot. This is a simple and fun craft that is perfect for kids to create and is guaranteed to put a smile on their mom’s faces.
To create the Mother’s Day Flower Pot you will need a few supplies. You will need a flower pot, acrylic paint, paintbrushes, Modge Podge, printed pictures and drawings, painter’s tape and clear gloss to seal and protect your flower pot. Once you have your supplies ready, you will want to prepare your paint pallet.
Once your pallet is ready, wrap a strip of painter’s tape underneath the top trim of the flower pot and begin to paint the trim.
Once the trim has dried, paint the bottom of the flower pot and then the base. As the flower pot is drying, have your child draw some colorful pictures on a piece of white paper while you print at least 2 pictures of the child. I printed my pictures on a piece of computer paper and they turned out great!
Once the flower pot has completely dried, you will prepare a space that you can apply the pictures with Modge Podge.
Apply a coat of Modge Podge on the back of each picture and paste onto the flower pot. Once the pictures are applied, apply Modge Podge over each picture. I went ahead and applied Modge Podge over the entire pot, except for the top portion. After you apply the Modge Podge it will look smudgy, but it will dry clear.
After the pictures have been placed onto the flower pot and the outer coat of Modge Podge has dried, you will then go outside and coat the entire flower pot with a clear gloss. This will seal and protect your flower pot.
Once the flower pot has dried, the real fun will begin! Grab some dirt, grab a pretty flower and have your child plant a beautiful flower for their mama.
This Mother’s Day flower pot is guaranteed to be a forever keepsake and will most definitely put a smile on mom’s face.
