Like a lot of kids, my kids are addicted to the world wide web. Once my girls have completed their homework they will immediately join a Roblox game or watch their favorite YouTube videos. As a parent, I know that I should set computer time limits for my kids but to be honest, with everyday household tasks, I lose track of time and do not even realize how quickly time has flown by. I know that as a mom I need to get better about this, so with spring quickly nearing, I have put together some fun outdoor activities for kids that I would love to share with you.
From experience, I know that when I tell my girls that I have a fun outdoor activity planned that they will complain because they don’t want to stop playing their electronic device, but once they get involved they end up loving it and making amazing memories.
- Scavenger Hunt: Create scavenger hunt cards that are geared towards each child’s age. This is not only a great way to get kids outside but it’s a great way to encourage kids to use their critical thinking skills. To make the scavenger hunt even more fun, you can hide prizes and give clues to where the prizes will be. The prizes do not have to be big. They can be candy or fun little gadgets like The Cuby or a fun kite from a Great Life. These fun toys and gadgets are great prizes because they keep kids physically and mentally active. You can find them here —-> A Great Life.
- Picnic at the Park: No matter what anyone says, picnics are still a thing. Kids may not know it, but they are and they can create a lot of fun memories. After the family picnic, you can surprise your kids with a kite. Kids are never too old to fly a kite. At first, they might think that they are but once they get started, they will have so much fun. If you are looking for the perfect kite, Antsy Pants has a wide variety of cute kites. Go here to see —–> Antsy Pants.
- Rock Painting: As a family, go outside and search for rocks that you can paint fun designs on. Once the rocks have been washed, painted and are dry, go on a walk in a neighborhood or public venue and hide them. There are a lot of Rock groups on Facebook that make rock painting a lot of fun. Some of these rock groups have a specific hashtag that you can add to your rock and when someone finds the rock they will post a picture on the Facebook group. It’s fun to see if your rock was found.
- Movie Under the Stars: Blow up an air mattress, grab some blankets, a television with an extension cord and enjoy a family movie with some movie snacks under the stars.
- Create a Lightshow: You can find these cool flashing LED light gloves for kids and teens–> here. They are perfect for going outside when the stars are out and creating a fun light show, especially to music. Kids love these and they are a great way to get your kids outside.
- STEM: There are some great STEM toys that are perfect for playing outside. I like buying my girls toys that they can learn from and also have fun with. Stomp Rocket is a fun rocket that is great for all ages. It is 100% KID powered and can launch up to 100 feet into the air and requires no batteries. Go here —-> Stomp Rocket <—- to read more and look at the other Stomp Rockets that are available.
As busy parents, it’s not always easy to follow through with screen time limits for your kids. Even though we become overly focused on what needs to be done around the house along with our jobs, it’s important that we pay attention and set screen time limits for our kids and it’s also important that we get up and get outside with our kids and make memories.
