I love cutting into a cake and being surprised by what I find inside. I have seen incredible cakes that include rainbow layered cakes, cakes with candy inside and cakes with multi-colors. I have discovered how to make some of these crazy and awesome cakes and most of them are much easier than you might think. Today I want to share with you how to make a two toned cake. It is by far the easiest to make and you can get really creative with your colors.
- Box of White Cake Mix along with the ingredients it asks for
- Food Coloring (I used pink)- but the color choice is yours
- 2 containers of icing
- Mix cake mix as directed
- Divide cake mix into 2 bowls
- Decide what color you want to use- I used red food coloring
- Drop around 8-10 food coloring drops into one bowl of cake mix and stir- If you want it darker use more, if you want it lighter use less
- Prepare 2 pans (I coat mine with Crisco and then coat with flour)
- Using a tablespoon, plop a spoonful of white cake mix into the middle of the pan (DO NOT SHAKE THE PAN)
- Then using another tablespoon, plop a spoonful of pink (or color of choice) cake mix onto the middle of the white cake mix (DO NOT SHAKE)
- Continue doing this, but also make sure to go back forth between both cake pans so you have an even amount of cake mix between both pans
- After the cake mix has been used, bake as directed according to cake mix instructions
- Once cake has cooled, remove from cake pans and ice
This cake is so easy to make and also fun. I love that you can get creative with it and use more than 2 colors. My biggest tip for making this cake is to allow the cake mix to spread itself, do not shake it.

I have always wanted to try making a multi colored cake. i will have to try making one this weekend. I did not think it would be this easy.
I’m not much of a baker. Kiddo isn’t here full time so I don’t usually want to make a cake that is going to sit around calling my name all the time. I could buy a white Jiffy mix as dye it with food color so we could have a small swirl cake. I am surprised at how simple this really is.

My girls love two toned cakes so much. They pick two colors and I bake them that way. It is their special treat!
Ok, I have to admit that I have ALWAYS questioned how this was done, and now my mind is blown. Birthdays around the house are about to get #crazy
It is so easy and sadly my picture did not turn out great because there were 17 girls waiting to get cake and I really couldn’t say.. Hey, girls, I need to cut this cake real pretty and go out and take 15 pictures of it outside.. hee hee
