Have you ever been stuck in a car traveling away from home or shopping for that perfect dress and all of a sudden your kids get hungry? Your 8 year old all of a sudden turns into a monstrous 2 year old and you swear it is the most disturbing thing you’ve ever seen until you look to the left and see that your husband has turned into a monstrous toddler himself. This is what always happens to my family when hunger takes over their mind, body and soul. One way that I try to prevent the hunger tantrums is by having SNICKERS® Almond Granola Mix ready when needed. This is a simple recipe that is easy to take with you anywhere that you go and there are very few ingredients.
SNICKERS® Almond Granola Mix is a simple recipe that uses few ingredients and it’s also a recipe that allows you to incorporate different mix-ins. I chose to use cranberries, sunflower seeds and SNICKER® Almond. The next time I make SNICKERS® Granola Mix I will use Peanut Butter Squares so that my family can enjoy a different flavor when we are away from home and hunger strikes!
Whenever I know that our family will be traveling away from home or that we will be out running errands for a long period of time it is my job to bring the kid’s official snack bag. When I forget to bring this bag it can get really ugly. Often times we have at least 3-4 little girls with us and my husband, so I try to make sure that I pack a variety of snacks that include fruit but also delicious snacks that have a sweet and salty flavor. The SNICKERS® Almond Granola Mix is not only a quick snack to prepare but it also has a great flavor that not only adults love but that kids love and keep coming back for.
- 3 cups old fashioned oats
- 4 tablespoons oil (canola or olive)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons agave
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 cup craisins
- 10 chopped SNICKERS® Almond Fun Size bars
- 1 cup sunflower seeds
- White chocolate drizzle (optional)
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Line a 9 x13 pan with foil and spray with non stick spray
- Pour oats into pan
- Bake for 20-25 minutes stirring halfway between cooking
- Oats should appear toasted
- Once oats are finished cooking, pour them into a large bowl, reline the 9 x 13 pan with foil and spray with non stick spray
- In a saucepan heat oil, maple syrup, agave, honey, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg until brown sugar has dissolved.. do not overheat
- Immediately pour the sauce into the bowl of oats and stir (I first tried to stir with a spoon but then opted to use my hands.. beware it will be hot)
- Stir in your mix-ins- craisins, SNICKERS® Almond and sunflower seeds (along with anything else you choose)
- Place mix into the prepared 9 x 13 pan
- Drizzle with white chocolate (optional)
- Cover with foil and freeze for one hour
- After one hour, open foil and break granola mix into pieces
- ENJOY and have ready for those days you are not you when you are hungry!
Since my husband is always on the road and can’t always get to food fast enough, I make sure to pack him some SNICKERS® Almond Granola Mix. This on the go mix helps him stay energized so he can get through his day until he can find time for lunch.
